Chimney Cricket Ridge Repair
One of the leaks the owner noticed inside his house was right where the house's chimney cricket was. The leak is there, the repair team will just have to remove the existing shingles on the ridge to find out exactly where the leak is so they can fix it properly.
Removal of Old Shingles
The existing "ridge" was made of normal roofing shingles and not proper ridge shingles.
Tear Off of "Ridge" Shingles
The team needed to tear off the existing shingles previously installed so they could install proper ridge shingles to the ridge of this chimney cricket.
Old Underlayment
When the crew removed some of the old shingles, they found that there were multiple tears and rips in the underlayment (felt) that had been previously laid. Rips and tears in underlayment can be the cause of leaks if water gets in them.
Multiple Leaks Found
The removal of the old shingles helps the repair team pinpoint where the leak or leaks are in a certain area.
New Underlayment and Shingles
Fortenberry's repair team installed new ice and water shield underlayment to ensure that no further water would get through to the interior of the house. They also installed new CertainTeed Landmark shingles that matched the existing shingles of the roof.
After Leak Repair
Once the repair crew found a leak and repaired it, they replaced the old shingles with new CertainTeed Landmark shingles in the color Colonial Slate.
Before and After
The before and after production of the repair provided by Fortenberry Roofing. They were able to find and repair the leak, properly on this chimney cricket.
Hidden Leak
From a normal point of view, it is almost impossible to tell where the leak is at in this picture. The crew knew there was a leak in this area due to water stains on the interior of the house.
